Make sure to remove the plastic insulate tab before use. If the light still does not turn on, lightly tap the microscope against a hard surface.

If the light still does not turn on, it means the battery is dead. Use a small precision Phillips screwdriver to remove the bottom cap and replace the batteries (the batteries are LR-44 batteries).
